Karen Glenski is the Deputy Director for International Operations of the Center for International Development. In that capacity she maintains the proper functioning of CID’s field offices, ensures a productive relationship between each of the field offices and the CID home office, and coordinates staff, financial operations and other management functions among CID’s international locations, with particular attention paid to troubleshooting, quality control, and compliance with university, federal, state, and host country regulations, laws, practices and guidelines.
She has extensive experience managing federal, state, and foundation grants and contracts. She is a specialist in designing and implementing business development projects in transitional economies. Prior to becoming Deputy Director, Ms. Glenski served as Project Director of numerous business development projects in Russia. Ms. Glenski provided oversight and management on the Volkhov Incubator Project, successfully establishing a business incubator primarily for women-led businesses in a small city in Russia. This project also included a microfinance initiative. She served as Project Director of the Morozov Project, a large-scale business development project serving all eleven time zones of Russia. Ms. Glenski's practical experience includes accounting. As the Fiscal Officer for Centro Civico Hispanoamericano, Ms. Glenski was responsible and reported to the Board of Directors for the financial management, accounting, and reporting of state grants. She has experience in the small business sector in wholesale, retail, and professional service industries including serving as an officer of the Board of Directors for a start up business. She has held teaching positions for adult education programs in Russian language and English as a Second Language.
Ms. Glenski has a Master of Arts degree in Russian, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian with minors in Economics and Mathematics, and has completed MBA coursework in Accounting. She studied Russian at the Maurice Thorez Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now the Moscow State Linguistic University). Additionally, she has served as President, Treasurer, and member-at-large for the Albany chapter of Amnesty International since 1987. |
