SUNY/CID, as a partner to Chemonics, Inc., holds a place through September 2010 on the
Building Recovery through Democratic Governance Technical Assistance IQC from
the Office of Democracy and Governance of the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict
and Humanitarian Assistance (CDHA/DG). Chemonics,
with SUNY/CID and its other partners, competes with other short-listed firms
to provide services that would assist developing countries increase their
adherence to democratic practices and respect for human rights. The
focus of this IQC is to provide state-of the art expertise to promote democratic
governance in countries in all stages of political development with services
to reinforce legitimacy of state structures, promote good public policy making
and management; and to assist in strategic planning, and policy reform. This includes assistance in
security sector reform, restructuring of ministries, fiscal management, service
delivery support and government outreach to the public, strategic planning
and leadership building, building public-private coalitions, and policy implementation.
SUNY/CID’s role as a member of the team is to provide technical
assistance in assisting in strategic planning and leadership building
democratic governance as it relates to the development of legislative and other
deliberative bodies and in the area of assessment, evaluation, analysis of
efforts to build state organizations, and to establish clear and transparent
governance. SUNY/CID engages in activities such as:
· Helping
to build political will to strengthen legislative bodies;

Strengthening
the representation, lawmaking, and executive oversight capacity of legislative
bodies;
·
Improving
the infrastructure and management capacity of legislative bodies; and
· Connecting and building relationships between deliberative bodies and other governmental bodies or civil society
organizations.
